aka GHRP6 · Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 6 · His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2
Overview
GHRP-6 is a synthetic GH secretagogue hexapeptide (His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, MW 872.44 Da). In humans it is concentrated in endocrine challenge tests, diagnostic protocols, and mechanistic studies — particularly as part of the GHRH/GHRP-6 test for adult GH deficiency — rather than in therapeutic outcome trials.
Mechanism
GHRP-6 acts as a ghrelin receptor agonist, increasing GH secretion and also affecting appetite and GI motility. In humans, endogenous GHRH is necessary for most of the GH response to GHRP-6, which is a key mechanistic distinction from direct pituitary stimulation. Preclinical work also supports appetite and prokinetic GI effects.
